Discovering, Creating and Establishing our place in the world
Curriculum
Kambrya
College,
in partnership with parents and the wider community, aims to
provide an environment conducive to learning; in which all
students can attain knowledge, skills and attitudes that
demonstrate high levels of achievement enabling them to be life
long learners and effective, successful, active and happy
participants in the international community.
The College values of Respect, Integrity,
Compassion and Achievement underpin the learning and teaching
team.
The holistic approach to education at
Kambrya
College begins in the
Middle Years of schooling at Year 7 and continues into Year 8 to
10. At Year 7 and
8, students work towards developing a wide range of skills,
competencies and knowledge through an integrated curriculum
delivered through the frameworks of the International
Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) and the Victorian
Essential Learning Standards (VELS).
Kambrya College
recognises that young people are confronted with a vast array of
choices; the IB MYP is designed to provide students with the
values and opportunities that will enable them to develop sound
judgement. The
programme is guided by three fundamental concepts:
1.
Holistic learning
2.
Intercultural awareness
3.
Communication
The implementation and delivery of the
programme aims to develop internationally minded people who help
to create a more peaceful world. Through the Learner Profile, IB
Learners strive to be: Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers,
Communicators, Principled, Open-minded, Caring, Risk-takers,
Balanced and Reflective. More information on how students at
Kambrya
College demonstrate the
Learner Profile can be found in the
Learner Profile Handbook
The contexts through which the curriculum
content interacts with the real world are the five
Areas of Interaction
(AOI). See the
AOI Handbook for further information on how the AOI are
approached at Kambrya College.
At Year 7 and 8 learning experiences are delivered through an
integrated curriculum. Each unit has a critical question which
is addressed across all learning areas over the course of the
term long unit. At Kambrya College
the Areas of Interaction are implicit in the Middle Years
Programme. They have a direct focus at Years 7 and 8 through the
integrated units. Each unit is supported by a unit project and a
celebration of achievement. See the
Year 7 & 8 Handbook for further details.

Year 9 Global
Journey Program
The Year 9 program engages the
student in a series of four authentic experiential
Journeys across a broad range of areas. Journeys adopt
an integrated approach across disciplines. Each Journey
focuses on an Area Of Interaction and develops the
attributes of the Learner Profile.
Students chart
their progress and set directions through the
development of learning goals and an individual learning
improvement plan at the beginning of each Journey.
See Year 9
Global Journey Program Handbook for further details

Year 10
Students in Year 10 complete the final year of the IB
MYP.
The
Areas of interaction are covered in the broad range of
experience offered through core and elective subjects,
the Work Experience Programme
and
Personal Project.
Students also have the opportunity to undertake studies
in VCE, VET in VCE and VCAL throughout Years 10, 11 and
12. Through
studies in Year 10, students will be given the
opportunity to experience VCE studies at Unit 1 and 2
level, or Applied Learning electives similar to those
offered in VCAL, and undertake studies that are
preparation for either VCE or VCAL pathways through
Years 11 and 12.
See the
Year 10 Handbook for further details

Later Years
Kambrya College’s
Later Years Programme consists of three main components:
Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), Vocational
Education & Training in Schools (VETiS) and Victorian
Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL).
VETiS courses can be an integral part of either
VCE or VCAL courses.
The above qualifications are run in accordance
with the regulations and processes of the Victorian
Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA).
The curriculum outcomes for individual subjects
are mandated by VCAA and the assessment practices are
subject to that body’s regulations and auditing
processes. Further information can be accessed at the
VCAA website:
www.vcaa.vic.edu.au
Specific
Kambrya
College
subject and course information can be accessed in the
Year 11 & 12 Student Course Selection Handbook.
As in the Middle Years, partnerships with all the key
stakeholders in a student’s education are considered
vital to the successful completion of the course.
The input of parents and the wider community,
including employers, community groups and other
education providers such as TAFEs are important in the
provision of each student’s programme. Each student has
a MIPs (Managed Individual Pathway) with regular
meetings to ensure the student continues to work towards
their goals and career choices beyond Kambrya College.
Students are also able to make additional
appointments with the Careers team in order to further
explore their options.
